Oddisee (Washington DC, USA)
Born Amir Elkhalifa in Washington D.C. to a Sudanese father and African American mother, and raised in Prince George’s County, Maryland, Oddisee bore witness to stark inequity early in life and became as political as the city he was raised in.
Elkhalifa tackles the human condition with unwavering conviction and candor, merging elements of jazz, funk, and go-go into his hip-hop rooted production. Instead of pursuing record deals and executives, Elkhalifa has taken the less-traveled path. Streamlining elements of the industry early on, from single-handedly recording, producing, and mixing his music to steering his marketing strategy and tour runs.
A string of contemporary releases—Rock Creek Park (2011), The Beauty in All (2013), The Good Fight (2015), Alwasta (2016), and The Iceberg (2017)—headlining performances and tours with his 5-piece band, Good Compny, and streams in the hundred-millions have propelled him to international recognition and acclaim.
Long celebrated as a deep-thinking emcee that delivers a masterclass in lyricism over his own production often influenced with the Go-Go music of his DMV roots, Oddisee explores human ambition, posing the question: “how far are you willing to go, and why?” on his 2023 return full length album „To What End“.
Oddisee’s work has been celebrated by NPR, TIME Magazine, Rolling Stone, New York Times, Washington Post, Complex, Hypebeast, KCRW, and many, many more across the globe.
Pitchfork deemed 2017’s trenchant The Iceberg “a focused beam oflive-band and hip-hop soul that rattles loudly in our present political moment,” while Stereogum described 2020’s Odd Cure as “gorgeous” and with NPR booking Oddisee for TWO Tiny Desk performances.

Cowtown:
Leeds heroes of the DIY punk scene, and one of our favourite bands of Glastonferret 2023. All hail COWTOWN! Dynamic overstimulated indie-rock and devolved synth-punk space jams.
Pleasureinc.:
PleasureInc. is the genre-fluid musical brainchild of brothers Jesse and Louis Baker. Jaded with playing in indie bands, the Norwich based duo began formulating a new type of project in early2021, creating music and visual content that reflected their love for hip hop, indie, pop, fashion, film and the 90s. Through aliases Kenny Pleasures and Jonny Silver, the brothers project a playful perspective in their music, pulling sounds and attitudes from the likes of Blur, Beastie Boys, easylife and Tyler, The Creator. PleasureInc. permeate personality like good cheese permeates stink. You simply can’t help but take notice.
Ginnel:
Ginnel are a noise/psych outfit featuring members of some of Preston's most celebrated and critically acclaimed bands (The Common Cold, notnowkato, Big Red Bus, The Dandelion Adventure and Erskine Brown).
"Psyched up, fazed out observations; character studies that wouldn’t seem out of place sat on the sofa with the Royals. At the end of the room in the bed, it wouldn’t be Nanna though, it would be Mark E Smith sending Lurkio for 20 Embassy, a gram and a 4 pack of Stella. This is NorthWestern psyched up punk waking up on the bench in Preston bus station spouting unwanted wisdom at the early shift." - Louder Than War
Better Joy:
Better Joy, the alternative-pop band created and led by Bria Keely, is a deft fusion of classic and contemporary influences, which boldly celebrates the tensions between opposing states. Introversion and extroversion, complexity and simplicity, the literal and the metaphorical are all polarities put under the microscope on her forthcoming single ‘Hard To Love’.
Pageant Mum:
Wear your heart on your sleeve kids! And Pageant Mum do just that! They leave nothing behind with their post hardcore punky angst, driven guitars and feisty truthful lyrical content. When you figure out that this comes from a group of teenagers, Pageant Mum suddenly become your new favourite band, one to follow, one to celebrate and one to champion. Live they are a force of nature, on record their heart is laid bare and the angular twists and turns of Fugazi meet Paramore meet The Bronx resonate throughout.
TV Face:
The band called TV FACE are a gang of three from Lancaster. Their debut album Tide of Men was released on Crackedankles Records (Evil Blizzard, Thank) in September 2023. It was named Louder Than War’s album of the week, describing the band as ‘a wonderful trident of piercing guitar, bass and drums, unified by vocals through the torrent of hot noise, thunderous rumble and acid-scuzz.’
Dragged Up:
"like The Fall circa 83, jangling guitars nearly in tune, merged with Sonic Youth. It’s slackedrist, it’s proto-grunge, it’s indie with edge" - Aural Aggravation
LISTEN: https://draggedup.bandcamp.com/album/hex-domestic-ep
dead things:
This three-piece from Chorley are as likely to be found in their local library, raking through the microfiche as they are in their rehearsal cellar. Obsessed with tales of death in their hometown, they yell their findings against a scuzzy fuzz-imbued racket. Catchy, infectious post-punk at its best, homegrown in Lancashire.
Notnowkato:
Big riffs, tight harmonies and indie rock disturbances in slightly odd time signatures.

Blues Harvest will once again be transforming Preston into a wretched hive of scum and villainy this December as they bring their 'BLUES HARVEST HOLIDAY SPECIAL' to The Ferret! The bands annual event will, for the first time, be an 'extended edition', meaning more bands, acts and surprises, with an early (4pm) opening and late finish.
Blues Harvest are a pop culture party band who have been delighting audiences at comic-cons, space centres and cantinas across the galaxy for over a decade.
Adapting their name from ‘Blue Harvest’ (the fake working title used to hide the 1982 production of Return of the Jedi) the band first performed their blend of geek culture with movie themes and popular hits to an audience of Star Wars fans and celebrities at a convention in 2013, and since then have built up a most impressive reputation as the go-to party band for geek events.
The UK based six-piece consists of Darth Paul (vocals & percussion), Lapti Nik (guitar & vocals), Ad Bane (guitar & backing vocals), Androo-Detoo (keyboards & backing vocals), Bass Windu (bass guitar) and Andylorian (drums & backing vocals). This talented sextet effortlessly fuse geek culture, nostalgia and energetic performances at their memorable live shows, blending their musical influences with fandom culture to result in an uplifting set of timeless movie bangers (Power of Love, Ghostbusters, Flash, Footloose), movie and TV soundtracks (Star Wars, The Mandalorian, Doctor Who, Red Dwarf), 70s awesome mixtape highlights (Hooked on a Feeling, Mr Blue Sky) and plenty of surprises along the way. Their live shows are a multimedia feast, with movie and TV footage being projected along with the music, evoking a nostalgic and crowd-pleasing experience.
“Magnificent! The lyrics, performance and John Williams’ theme fade-out: PERFECTION.”
– Mark Hamill
“Blues Harvest rocks!”
– Ray Parker Jr
“What a din.”
– Warwick Davis
Inspired by franchises such as Star Wars, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Guardians of the Galaxy and many more, Blues Harvest is the perfect cantina band to celebrate the sci-fi, comics and fantasy genres.
…
Appearing alongside Blues Harvest will be Zpor, of extra-terrestrial joymongers HENGE, with an intergalactic DJ set, plus live music from synthwave soundtrack master Beckett, the sci-fi prog surf cabaret rock band Zvilnik, plus Pop-up Puppet Cinema with another cult classic performance, and more announcements to follow!

/////////
The Sewer Cats:
Ferocious, fuzzy, feline-inclined… The Sewer Cats are an explosive Manchester-based garage punk duo delivering riotous tunes of patriarchy-smashing fury. Their short and snappy songs have been described as ‘catchy and scathing’, bursting with hooky riffs drenched in fuzz and aggressive riot-grrrl vocals, all served up with a big helping of sass.
The Sewer Cats’ loud and visceral live performances have gained them a following in the DIY punk scene, playing notable festivals such as Strummercamp, Book Yer Ane Fest and being billed for Manchester Punk Festival 2022.
////////
77 Spears:
SOUL-PUNK…. pondering on existential questions and the absurdity of life… THIS IS NOISE from NORTHERN ENGLAND.
////////
The Crippens:
Continuing the legacy of John Peel's local favourites & late 80s UKHC punk legends 'Dr & The Crippens', these reprobates have been 'Defrosted for the 21st Century'!
With their grotesque on-stage antics the band has been astounding fans old and new at shows up and down the country over the past few years with a mix of Dr and the Crippens classics and red-blooded new songs.
////////
Witchrite (Poland):
Witchrite started in 2007 in Gorzów Wielkopolski, Poland. Playing thrash metal with hc punk and crust influence, DIY attitude and a socio-political message.
////////
Skabs:
Metal punks from Bury.
////////
Millionearth:
Millionearth are a fast paced three piece Skate Punk band from North West England. Their main influences are the likes of Cigar, Propagandhi, Pennywise, 98 Mute and Good Riddance to name but a few. Brought up on a healthy diet of new age politics, social adversities, skateboarding, punk, metal and all things fast and heavy. Their down to earth no nonsense approach is ready to make a mark.

GLASTONFERRET 2023 - The Original Indoor Turfed Festival returns!
THURS 24th - SUN 27th AUG 2023
The Ferret's legendary event is back for its 16th year, bigger and better than ever. Four days filled with a massive live-music lineup of amazing acts; real grass & hay bales installed throughout the whole inside of the venue; guest craft ales, cider and summer drinks on tap; fantastic festival food vendors, DJ sessions & crafty stalls in the extended outdoor area; and late night after parties taking us through til the early hours.
Events run from Thursday night until Sunday night.
The GLASTONFERRET 2023 LINEUP:
From special guest headliners to local legends, outdoor DJ sessions to massive live shows - Glastonferret 2023 promises to be an absolute belter:
--- OPENING NIGHT: Thursday 24th August 2023 (from 4pm) ---
BODEGA
Treeboy & Arc
Wesley Gonzalez
Whinge
Uhr
The Dirt
Vice Vera
Joining us for the first time (& their first time in Preston) we welcome New York's BODEGA as our Thursday night headliners. Expect art-rock & post-punk with influences from hip-hop, indie-pop, and straight up classic rock. The lineup is stacked from top to tail with Treeboy & Arc + Wesley Gonzalez also making their Ferret debut, alongside Whinge, Uhr, The Dirt & Vice Vera.
--- Friday 25th August 2023 (from 3pm) ---
JEFFREY LEWIS & THE VOLTAGE
Bo Ningen
Bull
Butch Kassidy
Tero Kulero
The Dead Things
The Amber List
We welcome back Ferret favourite Jeffrey Lewis & The Voltage as our Friday night headliner. Expect scuzzy indie-folk & raw garage rock. Our Friday lineup is absolute killer, with the incredible Bo Ningen joining us for the first time in years, alongside Bull, Butch Kassidy, Tero Kulero, The Dead Things & The Amber List.
--- Saturday 26th August 2023 (from 12pm) ---
EVIL BLIZZARD
PANIC SHACK
Personal Trainer
Cowtown
Ginnel
The Jackpot Golden Boys
The Empire Police
Rude Films
British Birds
Zvilnik
Jean Genie's Massive Hugs
Local anti-heroes Evil Blizzard return to The Ferret for the first time since 2021's double-sellout weekender. Expect a hefty sonic assault of propulsive psychedelia and perverse punk, and the kind of joyously cathartic, wholly ridiculous and thoroughly thrilling rock ‘n’ roll ride that only Evil Blizzard can provide.
Joining the Blizz are Welsh DIY punk quintet Panic Shack, armed with brash, witty lyrics and killer hooks, and an absolute tidal wave of ear-crunching noise. The Saturday lineup is an all-day barrage of amazing live bands including the fantastic Personal Trainer, COWTOWN, & local legends-in-the-making Ginnel (with Glastonferret acting as their hometown album launch party). And we don't stop there, with The Jackpot Golden Boys, The Empire Police, Rude Films, British Birds, Zvilnik & Jean Genie's MaSsIvE HUGS joining us. PLUS there is more to be added!
--- Sunday 27th August 2023 (from 12pm) ---
DO NOTHING
TVAM
Maruja
Hauspoints
San Lorenz
Sky Valley Mistress
Yaang
Barry Gammon
8-B1Tch
BROTHER
FirstnameFrank
Millicent
Nottingham 4-piece Do Nothing hit the Ferret stage for our grand finale - their sound is equal parts Roxy-esque art rock and Ze/Celluloid records no wave. Do Nothing songs are characterized by the acerbic lyricism of vocalist Chris Bailey where every song feels like its own self-contained psycho drama.
Joining Do Nothing on our final night of live music, TVAM bring jagged guitars & drum machines, while the spirit of post-punk, electro rock’n’roll does battle with the hypnotic rhythms of Krautrock.
And there's more! This Sunday lineup is an all-day flood of incredible live music including the breathtaking jazz-punks Maruja, Chorley's finest Hauspoints, as well as the awesome San Lorenz, Sky Valley Mistress, YAANG, Barry Gammon, 8-B1Tch, Last Band Standing Runners-Up BROTHER, plus Ferret friends FirstnameFrank & MILLICENT.
Glastonferret isn't just about the bands on the main stage (although they’re all top notch) - these lot are here for your listening & dancing & feasting & shopping pleasure…

The Rock Band THANK from Leeds:
Noise-rock and Catholic guilt, plus a feral-looking guy making whooshing noises. It’s very sexy music, actually.
---
Support comes in the form of…
HAUSPOINTS:
Hauspoints make their first appearance at The Ferret after a stunning debut at the Continental earlier in the year. Hauspoints’ songs explore a distinctly northern viewpoint on modernity. They are like a love letter to popular culture that finds beauty in the mundane and celebrates the quirkiness of human existence. Some people say they sound like the Fall, which is fine by the band, but the members themselves hear the likes of NEU!, Squid and Roxy Music in the mix. Steven Hodson plays analogue and digital percussion, Nik Brierly plays synthesisers and digital percussion, Sam Almond sings and plays guitar, Rob Clarke plays guitar and sings, Sam Beaton plays saxophone, melodica and synthesisers.
TV FACE:
The band called TV FACE’s debut album Tide of Men is scheduled for release in September 2023 on Cracked Ankles (home to Evil Blizzard). The songs rage at the expectation that we should put a brave face on while we’re being kept out, pushed down, and held under; each song, a short, sharp clap back to the keep-calm-and-carry-on-gang.
SUGARSTONE:
Over the past few years, Sugarstone have been refining their unique alternative blend, yet 2022 has seen them emerge with a distinct sinister swagger that has grabbed the attention of national music tastemakers and earned support from CLASH, John Kennedy (Radio X), BBC Introducing and more. The EP has also caught the eye of Manchester’s local scene and made the band cover stars for the Manc Audio playlist and feature as one of Visit Manchester’s ‘Top 5 upcoming artists’.
HELL ON HEARTH:
Unsettling ambient.

SHOTTY HORROH:
The UKs most infamous battle rapper come rockstar Shotty Horroh is a true underground music legend. Shotty's full band shows boast an incredible blend of socio-economic/political commentary delivered in a unique mashup of indie rock and rapping.
A natural born hustler, Horroh discovered he had a natural talent for technical rhyming whilst whittling days away on the street corner. Eventually rising to become arguably the world’s best battle rapper -- at over 14 million plus views, his battle against Arsonal Da Rebel is the most watched English-language battle of all time. Before long, Deadmau5 came calling and soon he was hanging with Jay Z, moving to Toronto and becoming a star of King of the Dot.
Known for his multi-syllable rhyme patterns, creative wordplay and humorous punchlines, Shotty is arguably the best freestyle talent in the UK and one of the world’s most successful battle rappers.

A twenty-year show business veteran, Eller and his band The American Circus have developed a devoted international following based on dynamic, highly physical stage performances and an extensive catalog of curious phonographic recordings. The iconoclastic musician has spent more than a decade relentlessly touring the club, theatre and festival stages of North America and Europe.

DUVET:
This Manchester group started in 2020 and wear their influences on their sleeves, sporting a strong riot girl sound and image. After a run of relentless gigging they have gathered a dedicated following alongside a sonic shift into more experimental elements of post-punk and 90s noise rock. The band still maintain a raw energy live with lead singer Grace Walkden’s boisterous vocals, a powerful rhythm section and lead guitarist Tasmin Stephens wailing melodies. With punchy bass lines and strong female vocals, Duvet’s sound is familiar yet unique.
YAANG:
Forming in 2017 when Davey Moore (vocals/sampler) met Oliver Duffy (Guitars/vocals) at a rhythmic awareness class at the University of Salford - and later completed by Ben White (Ex-Working Men’s Club) on bass duties - the trio have steadily built their reputation for furious, high-energy, live shows, powered by the rocket-fuel combo of pulsating drum loops, clangorous guitars and a wicked sense of humour.
BLEACH BOY:
Bleach Boy are a community minded collective of working class punks making Post-Everything music in Manchester. In 2017 they began to play in a damp basement with the aim of creating unfiltered and honest art.
Bleach Boy thrive in the live setting, bringing huge intensity and rawness to their audience, with Milo (vocals/rhythm) working his way into the crowd - riling them up whilst the rest of the band (Tommi/Sam/Cian) hunker down in the beat. Bleach Boy have played shows in various UK cities and have supported bands including Surfbort and BAMBARA.
“Within the rage and noise, there is a sense of fragility. Something that the human heart just locks onto and recognises. Once you do pick up on it, there isn’t any going back really. You’ll quickly become obsessed.” LOUDERTHANWAR
PYNCHER:
Pyncher are the very best of the Manchester underground: moody & playful post punk that's begun to delight ears nationwide. This Radio 6 featured outfit brings to life Ennio Morricone riffs and twangs with their new EP 'Chew' receiving praise from NME and beyond. Having only been gigging for a year, this young band have shot themselves into the limelight of the Manchester music scene, and are starting to make a name for themselves in London as well, after being invited by Damien Hirst to play The Troubador.
THE DEAD THINGS:
Brand-new band alert! We're pleased as punch to host the debut gig from this box-fresh NW Post-Punk outfit.
Sic Turtle: Vocals / Guitar
Gang Fish: Vocals / Bass
Ray Gun: Drums
NICK VENCIDO:
Opening the live-music portion of our all-day affair, we have a solo set of acoustic ballads, laments and ditties from the eldest of the Vencido siblings! Vencidos have a storied history in the Preston scene, and these songs have a lot to do with that legendary rep.
WHINGE:
Oh shit! Don't forget your cordial hosts & expert curators: Whinge. Having spent months inviting bands to play for you once again, they've promised to get back in the rehearsal room & get some songs ready too.
Whinge make noise with guitars, synths and drums. Plus shouting. Post-punk informed DIY garage-rock played with gay abandon, Whinge slam together influences from the Mondays to the Sabbath, ESG to LCD, Genesis to The Rapture. Or something like that.
---
Listen to some of our featured bands on ‘ere, the offical Whingefest VII Spotify playlist: sptfy.com/whingefestvii
---
PLUS PLUS PLUS!
Plus, Beer Garden DJ Sessions from the nicest selectors in town: Frank Lovescenes aka Sabbath Soundsystem, Nodding Dog Disco and more TBA. Whinge will probably hijack the decks at some point as well, ruining your weekend with a lavish ape disco.

The SoapGirls
Provocative, Authentic, Excessive
South Africa's Wildest Alternative Rock Band on a Mission in UK, Europe, USA & Japan.
The SoapGirls, French born sisters from Cape Town, are the world's hardest working band during lockdown – performing over 400 live streams with extremely crazy rock 'n' roll shows – now it's time to be let loose on live audiences again!
As children, the fearless siblings Camille and Noémie Debray roamed the streets of Cape Town as street performers for nine years, singing and selling homemade soaps to tourists in order to donate part of the proceeds to hospitals - and so the locals gave the well-known lively, nonchalant young ladies the name 'The SoapGirls'.
As teenagers, they stormed #1 on the album charts in South Africa with their debut album. In the same year, they placed all four single releases from the album in the top ten of the single charts.
Despite their youth, they quickly realized that success comes at a price. The mechanisms and soulless marketing machinery of their major label Universal were against them. From then on, The SoapGirls decided not to compromise on their songs and their live performance. They left the safe haven of chart success, ended their collaboration with Universal, and followed their hearts.
Their passion was and is rock'n'roll – from then on, they celebrate lived freedom, freedom of movement and authenticity paired with a provocative honesty that is second to none. Social commitment and a good portion of punk attitude remain the basic attributes of the SoapGirls. After their break in style, the musical cornerstones are alternative rock, grunge and glam paired with catchy melodies and choruses. Some skillful excursions into the metal genre round off their spectrum.
Rock fans of all stripes can look forward to an extraordinary evening with one of the hottest and wildest live bands in the genre.

👺 FILTHYDIRTY (EVIL BLIZZARD) - The clown prince of Evil Blizzard returns with his mystery guitar goblin.
'The glammed up weirdo FilthDirty gets a bit bored, finds some unreleased Blizz tracks that didn’t quite work at the time, fucks around with them a bit, dusts off his bass / electric drum kit and finds his way around some mental abrasive sound that blasts it way well over eleven.'

Post-punk informed DIY garage-rock played with gay abandon, Whinge slam together influences from the Mondays to the Sabbath, ESG to LCD, Genesis to The Rapture.
📺 TV FACE - The band called TV FACE are a DIY, noise rock trio. Formed in 2019, their sound combines Steve’s weird, experimental guitar stylings with Brigit’s tight, grinding bass and Neil’s coruscating drums, laced with deranged yet tuneful boy-girl vocals. They have been compared to Braniac, McClusky, Buzzcocks, Pixies, and wouldn’t look out of place on Touch and Go Records’ roster.
☣️ HAZMAT - Heavily influenced by 90’s rock and grunge powerhouses such as Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins and The Pixies; HAZMAT’s sound features hallmarks of the genre such as overdriven, dominant guitar riffs, mind-bending solos and dark lyricism. Feeling disillusioned with the current state of pop culture and music, HAZMAT aims to instill the energy and attitude of that era, which becomes visible through their live performance.

Eyesore & The Jinx:
Eyesore & The Jinx’s early singles and debut EP were released by Merseyside taste-makers Eggy Records. Eyesore’s sphere of influence began to expand out of their home region, starting with a BBC 6Music Roundtable win for ‘On An Island’ produced by Jonathan Hartley from iconic psych-surgeons Clinc. Their debut EP, featuring singles ‘Leisure Time’ (KEXP Song of the Day) and ‘Nightlife’ was recorded with Daniel Fox (Gilla Band). The EP was funded by PRS Foundation’s PPL Momentum Accelerator fund for Liverpool musicians and was pressed to vinyl thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign.
Eyesore songs often consist of ugly narratives centred around vile fictional characters. They take loose inspiration from what is happening around them, which has meant that in some cases, their made up stories have come true. Predicting the downfall of local public figures aside, their repertoire often centres around the worst of society (the eyesore), but with a playful side (the jinx). This continues through the new material they’re set to share in 2023, alongside a healthy dollop of self-reflection.
After releasing their EP in the midst of the pandemic, they spent the latter end of 2021 and much of 2022 writing new material and tightening it up on stage with some choice gigs supporting acts like Bodega, Working Mens Club and DITZ. While the band stepped away from releasing music to continue songwriting and demoing, previous single ‘Leisure Time’ carried on picking up support behind their backs appearing on an episode of Shameless US and then somehow managing to appear in a number of Spotify editorial playlists at the end of 2022.
2023 feels like a fresh start for the band, with lots of recorded music under their belts there’s certainly an album announcement just round the corner.
Flowers of Evil:
Manchester based Flowers Of Evil (Oscar Puente, Phia Sky, Ted Booth) are an LGBTQ+ fronted art-pop outfit, pairing new romantic flavours with industrial ‘80s goth beats to create something enamouring and unforgettable. Their postmodern theatrics provide an extra element of intrigue for listeners, and since forming in 2020 have collaborated with a number of artists from the queer community and far beyond.
Autocamper:
Autocamper formed in 2004 to perform jangle pop shanties in exchange for free passage on merchant sailing vessels.
Tero Kulero:
A four piece psych rock outfit from Preston, Tero Kulero mixes sludgy riffs, cosmic drones and pulsing synth lines, stew it all up in a big, bubbling pot of reverb and then serve it out to all and sundry.
John Rental:
What every dog and doll wants and baby they can have it… it’s about to get rental.
+ DJ TBA!

>> Live Music Line-up:
DÉJÀ VEGA
Jack, Tom and Mike crash and weave together creating a pulsating, driving behemoth of original, powerful, psych rock. They have created a notoriety for their incredible, energetic, unrivalled live show, and are fast becoming a must-see act.
“There are debut albums that come along once in a while that get you straight away. This is one of them.”Louder Than War Magazine
“If you’ve never seen them live I implore you to ”Urbanista Magazine UK
YABBA
Brand new raw and chaotic sleazy disco punks from Dumfries, Scotland. Signed to Nice Swan Records, with an EP due this year. Huuuge plaudits for the live show where members switch up instruments including sax and keys, with loud and angry guitars and vocals fighting to be heard. VICIOUS.
"Scottish noisemakers YABBA made their mark as an incredible live outfit. Heavy riffs, walls of atonal noise and dancefloor drums is a bizarre combination, even more so with frontman Josh Kirk’s frenzied vocal work, but the result is one that truly knocks you for six but keeps you hungry for more." - CLASH MAGAZINE
TIRIKILATOPS
Avant Garde surrealist electro k-pop! YES! The wonky strangeness that is the spectacular, colourful, infectious Tirikilatops, beams down to planet Ferret. Utterly adorable, eccentric in the extreme, and over-loaded with sing-along earworms, and dance-along nuttiness.
TORTURE & THE DESERT SPIDERS
'With blistering intensity and an unapologetic, tongue in cheek weirdness, Liverpool-based garage punk newcomers Torture and the Desert Spiders have emerged from isolation and announced their arrival loud and proud with their brash, spunky and confident new single Money.' - Fast One Last
Torture and the Desert Spiders is a left-field garage project based around the songwriting of New Jersey-raised artist, Anna Kunz. With a fluid lineup, the sound ranges drastically from heartbreaking ballads to intensely jagged post-punk pieces.
Recently they’ve been spun on KEXP’s Sonic Reducer and shared the stage with bands such as The Lounge Society, Peaness, Pillow Queens, Average Sex, Hallan and more as well as played Sound City Festival.
SUGARSTONE
Switched on, neon-lit and ready to blow: Manchester’s Sugarstone are defined by their dreamy soundscapes and electric nostalgia. Sugarstone have been turning heads across Manchester with heavy hitting live performances, sharing a stage with the likes of Kid Kapichi, Calva Louise and Strange Bones.
Supported by BBC Introducing and Radio X (X-Posure with John Kennedy), Sugarstone have plenty more to show in the coming months; further expanding their catalogue and proving how timeless their sound really is.
THE BITTER LAKE
The Bitter Lake bring whirling viola, acoustic guitar and repeating harmonium together in emotive choruses and folk anthems inspired by the dark landscapes and crumbling industry of Lancashire.
FACE ACHE
Here to sink your sorrows and raise your joys via dance. Preston made bedroom pop rock indieness, because everything’s indie these days. Badabing Badaboom.
WHINGE
Your hosts and 'expert curators', Whinge make noise with guitars, synths and drums. Plus shouting.
Post-punk informed DIY garage-rock played with gay abandon, Whinge slam together influences from the Mondays to the Sabbath, ESG to LCD, Genesis to The Rapture.
Don't take all that too seriously tbh.
---
>> DJ line-up:
BARIUM NETWORK (Utopian Mechanics)
Bringing us a minimal wave set ft odd ball 80s synthpop and ambient business. Eschewing the abrasive in favour of easy-going weirdness.
WHINGE DJs
A lavish ape disco, ruining your weekend.

SUGARSTONE:

Supported by BBC Introducing and Radio X (X-Posure with John Kennedy), Sugarstone have plenty more to show in the coming months; further expanding their catalogue and proving how timeless their sound really is.
ALL HAIL HYENA:
Hailing from Burnley, Lancashire and Ferret regulars, ALL HAIL HYENA described themselves as: 'A washed up, insecure, middle-aged boy band making alt-punk rock in our pyjamas. You're entitled to hate what we do.'
HORSEMEAT:
Conceived under the apocalyptic glow of 2018’s dying winter sunlight, Horsemeat is the product of three men's desire to satiate their passion for 80s metal and 90s grunge in a safe and supportive environment. Whilst you could say Horsemeat is music for carnivores, it can be equally enjoyed by listeners of all dietary persuasions.
DOGSHIP:
Acid-punk 3-piece from Preston, merging classic energetic punk with contemporary alternative sounds. For fans of Slaves and The Blinders.
NARCISSISTS:
A brand new two piece from Preston/Wigan playing modernised rock music with retro influences.

#SAVETHEFERRET:
Earlier this year, The Ferret received a bombshell email. The owners of the building had put it up for sale, potentially letting the place fall into the hands of a developer and putting The Ferret at serious risk of closure.
It's absolutely vital that this grassroots music venue is saved, for the people of Preston & beyond.
We've already secured £500k via our friends at the Music Venue Trust! We now need to raise the final £150k to buy the venue & continue hosting live music for years to come.
We’re asking for your donations, of any amount, to help us reach that target.
It’s a big ask, but we can do this with your help.

BEACH MOUNTAIN:
Playing the music of Matthew Gallagher (Wille & The Bandits, Moon & The Beams, etc) this lineup features Dave Chambers (Formula 1, The Common Cold, uhr, Cornershop) on drums and Liam Ogburn (of Working Men's Club fame) on bass, with guests Dave Barker (Pike, Deadwood Dog) on organ and Robin Hill (The Hill Billy Gang, 8-Bitch) on special effects.
With a natural ear for music and a unique ability to connect with audiences around the world, Matthew Gallagher is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer, session musician, engineer and producer. His extensive experience in live performance has seen him both playing and opening for many respected and critically acclaimed artists.
THE AMBER LIST:
Enter the world of post Brexit urban folk indie blues as brought to you from the melting pot of North west England. Born of the deep North West mining village of Penwortham on't Ribble, The Amber List take a lifetime of trials and tribulations and turn them into folk-pop songs.
With a sound that many have likened to James, The Smiths, Echo and the Bunnymen and The LAs their Northwest roots evidently shine through. There is a real depth to their songs and their strong social commentary is complimented by powerful melodies, harmonies and driving guitars. The Amber List create beautifully textured soundscapes that display their talent as songwriters at the height of their craft. They make serious music for discerning listeners.
BINGO BAY:
Bingo Bay are an alt/rock/pop band from Preston, formed in 2005 by singer/songwriter Kevin Cross. Catchy, melodic songs fused with elements of pop/punk/garage and funk with the odd ballad. 'We follow our own pathway regardless of fads and fashions.'
MILLICENT:
Recent winner at the North West Music Awards, MILLICENT is a Ferret veteran. MILLICENT, who studies Songwriting at BIMM Manchester, is a dream-pop vocalist whose alternative style has attracted the attention of BBC Introducing: Manchester and The Voice UK. With mental health being a subject close to her heart, MILLICENT has acted to help break the stigma around mental health.
ONE SIDED HORSE:
“…I’m loving One Sided Horse, very Tom Waits, Asylum Years era” – Gideon Coe BBC 6Music.
In 2013, Mark Whiteside, who up to this point had worked with numerous singer songwriters and been used as a session drummer on a variety of albums, decided that he wanted to stand, or sit, at the front of the stage rather than the back. Following this decision, it was just a matter of buying an acoustic guitar and to start the process of learning painful chords to sing dark love songs to.
“… think The National, Tindersticks, even Richard Hawley, a momentous glory of stings that pull at your heartstrings…” 8/10 review, Louder Than War.
DOAD:
An alt-folk musical project fronted by George Harris, recently seen supporting Wille & The Bandits at The Ferret.

THE EMPIRE POLICE:
Noise from the heart of Lancashire. Since forming in June of 2015, Preston quartet The Empire Police have released several singles and EP's. The Empire Police have supported the likes of Cabbage, Twisted Wheel, Trampolene and The Sherlocks. They continue to establish themselves as a must-see live act with gigs across the North of England. Described by Tom Robinson of BBC 6 Music as ‘completely extraordinary’, The Empire Police are certainly ones to watch.
THE WHITE HEAT:
When a nationwide lockdown hit in 2020, founding members of The White Heat Ethan Briscoe and Brad Hoyle were forced to record their musical ideas from their bedrooms, rather than in a recording studio. Just over two years later, early in February of 2022, Briscoe and Hoyle came together with Cam Proctor and Elliot Collings to officially form The White Heat. They brought with them their contrasting musical influences, 00’s alternative, 80s rock, and metal - giving The White Heat their unique wall of sound. The White Heat have gained a sizeable local following from performing live music in their home city of Preston. They released their debut single on 26th February 2022, just two weeks after their official formation.
THE GLASS SKIES:
Hailing from Huyton, Liverpool, The Glass Skies combine the Indie sound of the north-west with a raucous Pop-Punk energy to form a unique Post-Pop Punk sound.
The band consists of John Riley (vocals and guitar), Sonny Price (drums), Lachlan Challoner (lead guitar) and Ewan McClelland (bass).
HENRY HOUSE OF WOLVES:
House of Wolves take inspiration from a classic rock style, with a raw-yet-refined sound, and Henry is no different. Going solo, Henry knows how to work a crowd and get the good vibes going.
THE OUTER LINES:
If you want to see Preston's newest indie talent, these guys are the next big thing if you ask us. Ones to watch.
FACE ACHE:
Here to sink your sorrows and raise your joys via dance. Preston made bedroom pop rock indieness, because everything’s indie these days. Badabing Badaboom.
CODA SMOKE:
Coda Smoke are 4 piece alternative rock band based in the North of England. Szymon, Tom, Olly and Skorge all met in university and bonded over their shared love of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Guns N' Roses.
